Linda Woodhead is a distinguished scholar in the field of religious studies and the sociology of religion.  She is best known for her work on religious change since the 1980s, and for initiating public debates about faith.
Linda is Head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King's College London. Prior to this, she was Professor of Sociology of Religion at Lancaster University.

She has written extensively about the decline of institutional religion, especially the churches, and the rise of alternative spiritualities, and she has carried out empirical research around the world. Her recent publications include Unknowing God: Towards a Post-Abusive Theology with Peter Harvey (2022).

In addition to her academic achievements, Linda works with journalists covering religion, culture and values. She is actively involved in public debates about faith and founded the Westminster Faith Debates with the Rt Hon Charles Clarke, which became an annual series bringing researchers into conversation with prominent figures in public life.

Linda has been recognised with several honours, including being appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2013, and has been elected a Fellow of the British Academy, the United Kingdom's National Academy for the humanities and social sciences, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
