Jenny Pearce is Research Professor at the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at LSE. Between 1992 to 2016 in the Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford, she was Professor of Latin American Politics and Director of the International Centre for Participation Studies (ICPS).
She is a specialist in issues of violence, conflict, social change and social agency in Latin America and has published widely on these themes. She is particularly interested in participatory research methods in contexts of violence and insecurity.
More recently she has also worked on problems of participation and conflict in the north of England, following the Bradford riots of 2001, and helped found the Programme for a Peaceful City and build a Community University in the District.
She is currently working on a book on Politics and Violence and is Principal Investigator on the ESRC/Newton research project: Co-Constructing Security Provision in Mexico: A Methodology and Action plan from Communities to the State.
She also continues her long term research commitments in Colombia and the Northern Triangle countries.
